Chris Meade's presentation

What is the impact of technology on writing?

Readers can seek each other out - you can see what people are reading - and writers can publish and promote online. Sites like Youwriteon.com and Authonomy are the news "slush piles" - but are accessible to both writers and readers.

Chris has got a Sony Reader in his hand. Might have to steal a look later!

For live literature its also really important as a way to get users involved - responding to events - promoting events.

New kinds of writing such as Fan Fiction happens without permission - and virtual reality games are also happening. Does the literary sector even realise this is happening? Hopefully we will discuss these things later.

The successful writer can now go direct to their reader. Deleted scenes from a novel being made available online - and you could even sell advertising alongside the work. Half joking...but imagine, travel to Afghanistan with the Kite Runner!
